This folder contains 5 photos of the 4 room log cabin that John H. Kemp completed in 1893 near a bubbling spring at the foot of Eldora Mountain. Print #11, by A. M. Thomas, shows 11 men, 7 boys, 3 dogs and two horses harnessed to a buggy in front of the cabin, probably in the late 1890s. The porch had been added by that time. Lined up along the front fence are (L-R) : John H. Kemp; his right hand man O. J. Olsen; John A. Gilfillan, a local mine owner and contemporary of Kemp; the 4th man in print #11 is unidentified; one of the 2 Yockey brothers is 5th; Lucia; 7th is unidentified; 8th is the other Yockey brother. Clarence Rogers is standing in the buggy; his father Marion Rogers is the bearded man seated in the buggy. Print #12, by Harry H. Lake, shows Mrs. John H. Kemp and her 2 sons (Bob and Donald) on Moses, the family burro, in front of the Kemp family cabin (neg. #668). Print #13, taken by Donald Kemp in 1937, shows the cabin as occupied by the last surviving member of the family. The large porch had been removed and replaced by a compact entry compartment that served for many years as Donald Kemp's office and bunk room (neg. #669). Print #s 14 and 15 are of the cabin during blizzards ca. 1937.
